| Getting a Bank Account | | Print | |

In Australia, whether you study or work, you need a bank account. To get a bank account, it is not a hard work. You just need to think about you want to open the account in which bank. Currently, there are five major banks in Australia (Commonwealth, ANZ, NAB, Westpac and St. George). But it does not matter which is bigger or not but we do write this in order of descending. Another thing is they have a special account for students no matter you are overseas or local. To have a account, you go to the bank and ask them that you want to open a account, or you can do it from online as well. But you have to take your passport, your student ID, offer letter and CoE letter to the bank if you want to apply via bank. The reason why you to take these things is because the bank will ask you these things also to prove that you are with the student visa and full-time student. So, it sounds like applying from online is easier and less in steps. Also you are applying for the student account, so some of the banks do not have account’s annual fees for the students. So please check with the banks before you apply the account. They will issue the bank card or ATM card which you can use this card to withdraw money from ATM machines and branches of your bank.
